
Total pagination will be increased by eight pages and the two newspapers will each get an extra eight pages of colour.
The measure was announced by chief executive Murdoch MacLennan in a letter to staff. MacLennan wrote that the £150m investment programme would be funded in part by a major "re-shaping exercise" across the entire organisation.
"Journalists are the lifeblood of any newspaper and maintaining the quality of the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph is vital. However, action to improve our production capability and secure our titles against the competition is also vital. That is why the measures of the kind we anticipate have the complete support of our editors," MacLennan said.
A consultation process will begin soon among the 521 journalists employed by the Daily and Sunday Telegraph. The terms on offer include pay in lieu of notice periods and redundancy payment calculated at four weeks' actual pay for each complete year of service up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
In October, News International, which owns The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and The News of the World, announced a five-year investment programme to upgrade its presses to supply full colour on every page.
