Teeman will work closely with Sarah Tunstall, chief operating officer at the PPA. He joined the BBC in 1993 as senior sales executive on the Radio Times and became deputy ad manager in 1997.

In 1999, he was appointed commercial manager on Beeb.com and, in 2002, group advertising director for BBC Magazines. He took over as director of advertising sales at BBC Magazines in June 2006.

Teeman said: "Given the climate we are now experiencing, it will be even more important to agree and execute a strong, joined-up strategy for the magazine medium."

Media Week revealed in January that Keenan was to step down from his role at the PPA after three years.

Keenan's departure follows a rad-ical restructure of the PPA under Jonathan Shephard, who took over as chief executive of the trade body in April last year.

This included closing the body's four-strong marketing department and shifting its marketing activity into an enlarged research unit.
