Team spirit lies at the heart of Adidas global campaign as World Cup approaches

LONDON - Adidas has launched its biggest global football marketing campaign to date, starring David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, in the build-up to next year's World Cup in Germany.

The "+10" campaign, created by 180 Amsterdam, uses the theme of team spirit and focuses on the relationship between individuals and their teams.

For example, one execution reads "Beckham +10", referring to the England captain and his team.

The advertising will run across a variety of media such as outdoor poster sites. The ads also carry Adidas's ad slogan "Impossible is nothing".

This first phase of the campaign features a number of international footballers, including Beckham, Germany's Michael Ballack, Spain's Raul Gonzalez, Italy's Alessandro Nesta and France's Zinedine Zidane.

Adidas's head of global communications Uli Becker said: "This is the kick-off for the greatest marketing effort Adidas has ever made globally," he said.

"We are thrilled to share our passion as the world's leading football brand in the run-up to the 2006 Fifa World Cup. This campaign will continue to drive our momentum with consumers around the world and further strengthen our position."

Independent agency 180 Amsterdam manages Adidas's global advertising account.
