TBWA in London reshuffle

Matthew Charlton becomes managing director amid management restructure.

TBWA\London has promoted Matthew Charlton to the role of managing director as part of a wider senior management restructure.

Charlton, who was previously the global business director on Sony PlayStation, will now focus on the day-to-day management of the agency, including its working structures and processes.

Jo Blundell, TBWA's group director on global business, has been promoted to the role of managing director for network clients.

Reporting to Charlton, she will work across the agency's global business, including Adidas and Apple.

Charlton will continue to manage the PlayStation business, while Blundell will continue to handle McDonald's and Mars.

The two appointments are designed to relieve Matt Shepherd-Smith, the chief executive, of day-to-day management duties, allowing him to focus on client relationships and new business.

Charlton and Blundell both moved to TBWA last June -the former from Bartle Bogle Hegarty, where he was a global business director; the latter from McDonald's UK, where she was the acting marketing director.

Meanwhile, Simon Law, a planning director at WCRS, has joined TBWA as its head of planning. He replaces Tom Morton, who was promoted to executive planning director after Neil Hourston left to join Grey last October.

The agency has also hired Andy Cairns from Taxi New York as its head of account management. Cairns replaces Suzie Shaw, who left last year to join WCRS.

Shepherd-Smith said: "We now have a full squad in place which gives us a lot of confidence for the future."

It is the first big restructure at TBWA since the arrival of Tim Lindsay as the president of UK & Ireland last year.
