Tatler editor Procter in unexpected exit

LONDON - Jane Procter, editor of Conde Nast's Tatler magazine, has unexpectedly left the company.

Her departure was so rapid that staff were apparently unaware she had gone.

The reasons for her departure are not known, although the high staff turnover under her editorship is thought to have been a factor.

After Procter's arrival at Tatler in 1990, the magazine's sales rose from 30,000 to the present high of more than 90,000.

However, industry sources suggest that it was the high turnover of personnel and the resignation last week of key fashion staff that prompted Conde Nast' s managing director, Nicholas Coleridge, to take action.
