
The museum, which opened its doors today (19 November) following a £45m redevelopment, will host a free housewarming party for the general public this weekend.
Entertainment will include an electropop DJ set from Alexis Taylor of music group Hot Chip, and musician James Hastings will perform an acoustic set using a 12-string guitar.
Salon London, a regular interactive event showcasing specialists from the worlds of science, arts and psychology, will invite guests to learn more about chronology and time in the venue’s Grand Saloon with physicist David Tong, food historian Leonie Sooke and musician Juliet Russell.
Michael Langan of Polari magazine will take visitors on a Queer Britannia tour revealing lesbian, gay, bi- or trans-sexual themes in Tate Britain’s collection.
Fashion designer Emma Yeo will be running an exclusive fashion workshop, while Kino, a London-based open-mic film night, will be screening films inspired by Tate Britain’s collection and made in a 48-hour film challenge.
British artist Keith Coventry has also created a free limited edition print for visitors to commemorate the housewarming party, and will be signing a limited number of prints at the event
As part of the event, Tate Britain will be launching a weekly film programme called Assembly with a presentation of short films.
