TalkSport to reach England World Cup fans in Germany

LONDON - TalkSport has hammered out a deal to broadcast on digital radio in Germany during the World Cup, including using separate advertising and programming.

The UTV Radio-owned station has struck a deal with German regional broadcasting authorities to broadcast across the country's DAB digital radio multiplexes during the tournament.

As part of the deal, output will be split during the advertising breaks to create tailored advertising, information and news for those England fans in Germany. The move will also give fans a greater opportunity to take part in phone-ins.

A spokeswoman for TalkSport, which already has official broadcasting rights for the tournament, said: "This is a chance for advertisers to be a bit more creative and reach fans at the event itself."

Daniel Rose, UTV Radio digital development director, added: "This is a great opportunity for TalkSport to give the England fans the chance to keep in touch with all that's happening in the World Cup, while supporting the England team in Germany and endorsing TalkSport's commitment to DAB digital radio."

This latest development follows the launch of a TalkSport-branded DAB digital radio, through the Currys retail chain.
