He is charged with making T-Mobile's entire product offering consistent to both businesses and consumers across all countries, as the Deutsche Telekom-owned company migrates all of its country operations to the T-Mobile brand.
"This role is essential to ensure that we deliver a similar customer experience in all countries as well as a uniform product proposition," said a T-Mobile spokeswoman.
Hamburger, who previously reported to UK chief marketing officer Clent Richardson, now reports to Klaus Tebbe, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile International. He joined T-Mobile, then One 2 One, in August 2000 from retailer Phones4u where he was marketing director.
T-Mobile has appointed Simon Howton to the role of UK head of customer marketing vacated by Hamburger. Howton was previously head of market planning .
Separately, T-Mobile has secured Manchester Airport as its first corporate customer since rebranding from One 2 One. It landed the two-year contract after a competitive tender against other major providers.
The win represents its first big step to establish T-Mobile as a mobile services provider to the business community.
As One 2 One, the firm had only 2% market share among businesses.
As well as the UK and Germany, T-Mobile operates in the US, Holland, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, and has more than 67 million subscribers to its network.
