T-Mobile UK marketer nets international role

T-Mobile, the world's second biggest mobile phone company, has appointed its UK head of customer marketing Paul Hamburger to lead product marketing across all its nine territories.

Hamburger takes on the newly created role of head of end-user product marketing for T-Mobile International.

He is charged with making T-Mobile's entire product offering consistent to both businesses and consumers across all countries, as the Deutsche Telekom-owned company migrates all of its country operations to the T-Mobile brand.

"This role is essential to ensure that we deliver a similar customer experience in all countries as well as a uniform product proposition," said a T-Mobile spokeswoman.

Hamburger, who previously reported to UK chief marketing officer Clent Richardson, now reports to Klaus Tebbe, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile International. He joined T-Mobile, then One 2 One, in August 2000 from retailer Phones4u where he was marketing director.

T-Mobile has appointed Simon Howton to the role of UK head of customer marketing vacated by Hamburger. Howton was previously head of market planning .

Separately, T-Mobile has secured Manchester Airport as its first corporate customer since rebranding from One 2 One. It landed the two-year contract after a competitive tender against other major providers.

The win represents its first big step to establish T-Mobile as a mobile services provider to the business community.

As One 2 One, the firm had only 2% market share among businesses.

As well as the UK and Germany, T-Mobile operates in the US, Holland, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, and has more than 67 million subscribers to its network.
