T-Mobile to sell England phones

T-Mobile is to launch a range of England-branded mobile phones ahead of Euro 2004 after agreeing a short-term sponsorship deal with the Football Association (FA).

The phones, available to both pre-pay and contract customers, will predominantly be marketed and sold via the internet, in line with a shift in the brand's strategy toward online sales.

The deal was brokered by sponsorship agency Spec and runs until the conclusion of Euro 2004. The products are unlikely to be supported by an ad campaign unless England progress to the later stages.

As well as being able to use FA trademarks, T-Mobile will be granted exclusive new media rights for the term of the contract. It will deliver an official England text and picture messaging service with behind-the-scenes news.
