T-Mobile global marketing review puts UK jobs in danger

LONDON - T-Mobile is reviewing the future of its international marketing division, based in London, along with its global brand strategy.

The German mobile operator manages international marketing out of its offices in Hammersmith, but Marketing has learned that senior executives are considering restructuring the division, with closure among the options.

Sources have revealed cuts are expected in the division, as T-Mobile strives to make its marketing function leaner. About 350 staff work at the Hammersmith office, including up to 100 marketers whose positions are now under review.

One option under consideration is the relocation of the division to T-Mobile's UK headquarters at Hatfield, where the UK marketing team is located.

The international review has been sparked by the exit of chief marketing officer Nikesh Arora, who left at the end of September without a job to go to. Arora's replacement is expected to be named in the next few weeks, but it is not clear whether the role will continue to be based in England or move to Germany in the wake of the restructure. T-Mobile declined to comment on the rejig.
