In the survey, which asked PAs and corporate bookers about the ‘ultimate Christmas party’, 14% said their company defied the recession by spending £6,000 plus on an office Christmas party.

A total of 1,480 Late Night London customers took part in the research, which also found 16% didn’t hold a Christmas party at all.

Weeknights were the most popular nights to hold Christmas events, with 64% of respondents saying Friday was their day of choice, presumably to avoid struggling through a hung-over work day.

A formal dress code was preferred by 85% of people, and 57% felt that a disco was essential for a successful night.

A cheeky 30% admitted they’d experienced the start of an office romance at their Christmas party.
