The Surrey Advertiser Group has launched a free paper to capitalise
on the captive commuter audience.
The first edition of The Rush was distributed outside bus and train
stations in Surrey on Thursday.
Ian McEwan, the managing director of the Surrey Advertising Group, said
The Rush would focus on attracting recruitment advertising that would
appeal to commuters.
’There are also likely to be entertainment ads for restaurants, cinemas
and theatres. I’m hoping fashion retailers may also want to advertise in
the paper,’ said McEwan.
Advertising for The Rush is being sold by the Surrey Advertiser Group’s
existing sales force.
’People travelling on a train or in a bus are the perfect captive
audience.
The Rush has a local spin - we have produced something that is
consumable in the region,’ said McEwan.
The Surrey Advertiser Group is owned by the Guardian Media Group, which
has already launched one commuter paper, the Reading Central.
The Rush had an initial distribution of 30,000.
