The sports entertainment show, which featured stars completing various sporting challenges, returns to the BBC on Thursday October 16 on BBC One, as a six-part series presented by the man of the moment Johnny Vaughan and Suzi Perry.
It comes close on the heels of Channel 4's 'The Games', which featured celebrities including Sporty Spice and James Hewitt competing in a series of sporting disciplines.
Based in La Manga in southern Spain, 'Superstars' will feature sports stars such as former Great Britain 110m hurdles star Colin Jackson, Millwall footballer Dennis Wise, and former England international Stuart Pearce.
According to Vaughan, who was this week named to succeed Chris Tarrant on the Capital FM breakfast show next year, the public demand to bring the programme has been huge. "Superstars was a great show -- everyone has fond memories of it."
The stars will part in a variety of disciplines, ranging from the infamous gym tests (dips and squats), to mountain biking, the 100-metre sprint, target golf and swimming.
The men will battle it out over four heats with the top two contestants in each show claiming a place in the grand final. The women's final will be shown on November 13 and the men's final on November 20.
The original 'Superstars', presented by David Vine, ran for 11 years on BBC One from 1974 to 1985 and, as well as featuring the former England football captain Keegan taking a tumble off a bike at high speed, it saw Malcolm Macdonald setting a record for the 100 metres.
'Superstars' is being produced by TWI and commissioned by Lorraine Heggessey, controller of BBC One, and Jane Lush, controller of entertainment for the BBC.
