Sunday Times gets revamp and motoring supplement

News International is relaunching The Sunday Times this weekend with a new supplement and a revamped Style magazine.

The Sunday Times, which leads the Sunday broadsheet market with a circulation of 1.4 million, is introducing a supplement about motoring called Driving.

The introduction of the 32-page magazine will take the number of supplements published with the paper to 13.

Driving will be a guide for readers looking at buying or selling a car.

Jeremy Clarkson will write features and it will offer advice from trade experts. It replaces the motoring section, which previously appeared as part of the sports supplement.

The Sunday Times is also updating its Style magazine and expanding its sports section to 28 pages. Style, which will continue to be edited by Tiffanie Darke, will include new regular features on fashion, beauty products and sex. Regulars such as AA Gill and Shelley von Strunckel remain but Michael Winner's popular "Winner's Dinners column moves to the Review section.

The changes to The Sunday Times will be backed by advertising from Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R. Media is handled by Carat.

Darke said Style's relaunch will target women alienated by glossy fashion magazines. "We have a sophisticated readership, intelligent women with careers and families. This is reflected in our magazine."
