
Guardian Media Group's Sunday newspaper bucked the trend to post a 1.6% monthly lift to 372,669 in November ABCs published today (11 December).
However, even this chink of light follows a 4.9% drop for The Observer in October and still equates to a 16% tumble year on year.
Elsewhere, November proved to be particularly tough for the Sunday tabloids.
Scotland’s Sunday Mail, owned by Trinity Mirror, led the falls, down 5.9% to 1,148,244. Its UK sibling Sunday Mirror dropped 4.9% to 1,148,244, while News International’s market leader News of The World fell 4.6% to dip below 3 million at 2,923,355.
Circulation for Northern & Shell’s 90p Daily Star Sunday dropped 2.8% to 354,386 but continues to be the only Sunday red-top to increase its circulation year on year, up 2.2%.
Monthly drops in the quality Sundays were less pronounced, with The Sunday Telegraph losing the most copies, almost 10,000 (-1.9%), to 577,201.
The Sunday Times dropped 1.8% to 1,171,457, but still remained more than twice as popular as its nearest rival.
Meanwhile, promotions for The Body Shop and British Airways holidays to Dubai helped steady circulation for the Independent on Sunday (-0.2%) at 156,517.
The mid market Sunday Express and The Mail on Sunday dropped 2.2% and 2.1% respectively, to 594,517 and 2,071,526.
