The Peterborough shop intends to attract Cambridgeshire fashionistas and, if successful, the format will be rolled out across the UK.

It follows similar boutique initiatives from organisations such as Oxfam and builds on the charity's intention to expand into specialist stores to help beat the recession; it recently opened a music and book store.

Last year, the retail arm of Sue Ryder Care, which includes 370 shops across the UK, raised more than £2m. The charity retailer raises funds to provide care and social support for people with conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, Huntington's and Parkinson's disease, stroke and dementia.
