Steve Henry takes over chairmanship of HHCL/Red Cell

LONDON - Steve Henry is adding the chairmanship of HHCL/Red Cell to his role as executive creative director in what is being interpreted as a move to lock in one of the UK's brightest agency stars.

The announcement comes almost exactly a year after the deal that made HHCL & Partners, which Henry helped to establish, the centrepiece of WPP's Red Cell network.

As a result, Lee Daley will step down as the chairman of HHCL/Red Cell to concentrate exclusively on the development of the Red Cell network, of which he is the chief executive.

Henry's promotion is in line with Daley's policy of appointing creatives to the most senior positions in Red Cell agencies. They include Andy Berlin, at Berlin Cameron/ Red Cell in New York, and Herve Chadenat, now the executive creative director and president of Les Ouvriers du Paradis/Red Cell in Paris.

Daley described Henry as "the soul of HHCL". He added: "As one of the founding partners, he holds up all of the great values and standards of creative excellence that define the HHCL brand and is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation."

Henry was seen as critical to the agreement under which HHCL moved from Chime Communications to the WPP stable and there were persistent rumours that he might leave.

But Henry said: "I see this appointment as a vote of confidence by Red Cell in our management. There have been rumours about me and I suppose there always will be but the fact is that I'm totally committed here."
