CognitionX's co-founder shares her lessons from the career ladder.

The four years since I made 30 Under 30 has been a rollercoaster. At the time, I was co-founder of Rightster (now Brave Bison), a video-distribution company. We took it from idea to initial public offering and grew to 250 people in 12 countries.

I was beating the drum for it to become more data-driven – it’s not simple. Experiencing that challenge led me to co-found CognitionX, a community and directory for all things artificial intelligence, where our mission is to democratise access to AI.

The community aims to be both an educational and entertaining way to learn about the AI revolution and connect with software vendors and datascience experts through our directory and weekly events.

I’m learning all the time and, if you are too, I hope you enjoy the following tips.

Be prepared

Always do your homework – be the most prepared person in the room.

Learn to listen

If you truly understand the question, the answers take care of themselves. Make a conscious effort to hear what people are asking.

Make time for reading

There’s so much material out there, it can feel like we are missing out on something. We have to get used to this feeling and keep reading on!

Learn to be the bridge

I think 北京赛车pk10 readers are perfectly placed to be the vital linking role between those building the technology and those using it.

Trust the data

Learn how to solve problems using data rather than your gut. Your received wisdom will always be useful but don’t deny results delivered by analytics just because they don’t tally with your preconceptions.

Don't be afraid of AI

I believe AI is here to augment our intelligence, not make us obsolete. Robots will extend what we are capable of and free us up to spend time on higher-order problems.

Start training like a robot now

Use a product such as Amazon’s Echo or AI assistant X.ai to get a feel for how to engage with a bot. Teach it your ways of operating, get frustrated and keep plugging away, as this is what the future will look like.

Be more swan

Try to sail along pristinely. Keep the frantic paddling that happens beneath the surface hidden.

Network by giving

Look for ways you can help people rather than how they can help you. It will start more conversations, open many more doors and is massively rewarding.

The dots will make sense in reverse

When your career isn’t taking the route you expected, remember that traditional career paths are old-fashioned. Listen to Steve Jobs’ advice from his commencement speech at Stanford and take comfort in that it will all make sense when looked at backwards.
