Starbucks has called an undisclosed number of agencies to pitch for the business, which is understood to encompass digital advertising, website design and online customer relationship management. A result is expected next week.
The company launched its first dedicated UK online presence earlier this year.
A key part of the remit will be to promote Starbucks' high-speed wireless internet access service, called HotSpot.
The service, which is run in conjunction with T-Mobile, uses Wi-Fi technology, a competitor to standard broadband connections, and allows customers to use a PDA or laptop and wirelessly download e-mails, watch webcasts or listen to audio streams.
The service is currently available in more than 50 stores across the UK.
