Star TV expands into continental Europe

LONDON - Asian media company Star TV has made its debut in continental Europe with the launch of its Star Plus, Star One and Star Gold channels on the WorldTV platform.

The three channels will now form part of WorldTV's suite of seven premium pay-TV channels and are aimed at continental Europe's south Asian viewers. In Europe, Star TV was previously only available in the UK.

Star Plus, which has become India's number one cable channel after launching there in November 2004, will broadcast dramas such as 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' and 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', as well as a selection of comedies, game shows, talk shows, lifestyle, and children's programmes.

Star One is aimed at Europe's third and fourth generation Asians and includes talent search show 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', dancing show 'Nach Baliye', chat show 'Koffee With Karan' and singing show 'Antakshari'.

Star Gold will give Asian audiences the chance to watch Bollywood blockbusters and has acquired the rights to broadcast blockbusters 'Don', starring Shah Rukh Khan, 'Baabul', 'Krrish' and Bafta-nominated 'Rang De Basanti'.

WorldTV, a subsidiary of content firm GlobeCast, provides more than 210 TV and radio channels in 35 languages across 42 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
