Staples focuses on tools for school in TV campaign

LONDON - The disastrous consequences of being unprepared for a new term at school are highlighted in Euro RSCG London's first TV campaign for high-street stationery retailer Staples.

Staples is launching two 30-second TV spots to encourage parents and children to do their back-to-school shopping at Staples.

Each spot shows a child getting into difficulty in the classroom as a result of not getting the correct back-to-school kit at Staples.

In "glue", a girl is shown getting into trouble in an art class as a result of not having a glue stick, while "ruler" shows a boy unwittingly causing havoc in a science lab as he tries to improvise because he does not have a ruler.

The spots end with the strapline "Get the tools for school, at Staples". The campaign will run until mid September, the key sales period for the back-to-school shopping.

Staples awarded its £6m creative account to Euro RSCG London last October as part of a move beyond stationery. The firm has diversified into product ranges such as office furniture, satellite navigation systems and computers.

The retailer opened its first UK store in Swansea in 1993 and now owns a network of 85 stores across the country, with plans to open five every year. The retailer has also revamped its online presence at .
