Standard hires and joins Oyster

LONDON - The Evening Standard has bolstered its client-facing operations with four appointments and has signed a deal with Transport for London to allow Oyster card users to buy half-price copies of the paid-for title.

Now under the new ownership of Russian Alexander Lebedev, the Standard is running a promotion where anyone showing an Oyster card at its vendor points can buy a copy of the paper for 25p.

This comes on top of plans to give out free copies of the newspaper in key locations in the early evening.

Meanwhile, Deborah Rosenegk, the former head of brand solutions at BBC Magazines, will join the newspaper in April as head of client sales.

She will be joined by Pete Williams, previously managing director of Simpsons Travel, who will oversee the newspapers' travel category.  He was a former marketing director of Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Chris Hawken is joining on a consultancy basis to work with the motors team, while  Robert Beckman, who previously worked at Starcom Plus, will head the Standard's telecoms and technology sectors.
