SSE gives fans the chance to play against Andy Murray

SSE Scottish Hydro has created an installation located in Glasgow city centre, giving tennis fans the chance to return Wimbledon champion Andy Murray's serve on a specially-created full scale tennis court.

The SSE attraction is part of The Merchant City Festival, which launched at the weekend (30-31 July) and is running until 7 August.

More than 11,000 visitors stopped by the 'SSE Presents… You’ve Been Served' attraction during the opening weekend.

The world number two from Dunblane is facing challengers via a giant LED screen at Candleriggs Square, to help promote SSE's sponsorship of the inaugural Andy Murray Live, an exhibition taking place in Glasgow on 21 September.

The SSE installation, devised by Material UK, features specially created footage of serving on a giant screen, so fans get to feel what it’s like to be up against the two-time Wimbledon champion. The screen is synced with a state-of-the-art serving machine to deliver serves – shooting tennis balls at fans at various speeds of up to 80mph.

Participants who successfully return serve will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky fan will get the chance to face Murray’s serve for real when he appears at The SSE Hydro for the inaugural Andy Murray Live exhibition.

SSE’s head of sponsorship and reward, Colin Banks, said: "We wanted to create a unique experience for tennis fans in celebration of Andy Murray Live coming to The SSE Hydro in September. ‘SSE presents… You’ve Been Served’ will give tennis enthusiasts of all ages and abilities the chance to face what must be one of the most daunting sights in world sport – Andy Murray lining up to serve at you."

Gillian McCormack, managing director of Material UK, added: "We wanted to celebrate SSE’s partnership with Andy Murray Live with an idea that would create a real buzz, and we are sure that allowing fans to try to return his serve will do just that."
