Spice dolls to vie with Teletubbies in Xmas toy war

Just when you thought there couldn’t be another Spice Girls

marketing spin-off, the band have licensed a range of Spice Girls dolls,

which will battle Teletubbies to be number-one Christmas toy.

Galoob, a US-based firm, has won the licence. The dolls will be

distributed in the UK by the Character Product Group, which last year

took the market by storm with its Toy Story doll, Buzz Lightyear.

The plastic replicas of the five girls are expected to be unveiled later

this autumn.

How long Spice Girls mania can last is being questioned by several firms

including BT, which had planned a marketing link with the Spicers but is

now less keen.

’The number of product associations has devalued the Spice Girls

currency.

However, we are continuing talks,’ said a BT spokesman.
