Kenny, Cartman and Chef are set to grace condom packets from this
week, as a range of South Park-branded prophylactics goes on sale in
high street stores, including Our Price and Top Man.
Comedy Central, the US media company which owns the rights to the cult
cartoon series, has granted UK company Condomania the rights to produce
the condoms through its UK agent, The Licensing Company.
The distribution deal marks Condomania’s launch into mainstream consumer
retailing. It began manufacturing condoms for the NHS in 1991, but in
January it began to sell a flavoured range in pharmacies, backed by a
consumer press campaign.
The South Park range features individual characters from the cartoon on
’collectable’ packets.
George Sutherland, Condomania MD, said: ’We are seeing a great change in
the way condoms are retailed. With shops like Top Man taking them on,
they are becoming more of a lifestyle product.’
