The agency, which was the incumbent on the Sony Music business prior to its merger with rival BMG, triumphed in a final head-to-head battle with Vizeum, which was the incumbent on the BMG account.
Sony BMG called the pitch late last year and initially had a long list of nine agencies to compete for the business. This was whittled down to four agencies before the final stage between Manning Gottlieb and Vizeum.
The merger of Sony Music and BMG, previously owned by German media giant Bertelsmann, created a company with around a quarter of global music sales. Artists on its roster include Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen who has just released his new album 'Devils & Dust', The Killers, Kasabian, Outkast and country artist Sara Evans.
Nick Manning, group chief executive of OMD, said: "We have strong entertainment credentials and we are going to be building this into more of a full-service proposition. This win is massive for the agency and is testament to the work we've done on the Sony business for the last seven or eight years."
