Snapchat in talks with TV presenter who cried foul over Snap Maps

In the video posted on Facebook is headlined, "PARENT ALERT!!!! If your child uses Snapchat you MUST watch this. They've introduced a new feature...", and features a conversation between Sawalha and her 14-year old daughter, Maddie, about Snap's latest update.

The main concern highlighted in the video is that the maps were introduced to the app via an automatic update and that, without her consent or knowledge, other Snapchat users could see where she was and what she was doing.

In response to the video, Snapchat has initiated a conversation with Sawalha and issued a statement aimed at correcting some of the information shared in the video.

"With Snap Map, location-sharing is off by default for all users and is completely optional," the Snap spokesman said. "Snapchatters can choose exactly who they want to share their location with, if at all, and can change that setting at any time. It’s also not possible to share your location with someone who isn’t already your friend on Snapchat, and the majority of interactions on Snapchat take place between close friends."

The statement also added that Snap was keen for parents and educators to have accurate information about Snap Map.
