Smooth Radio, which includes the revamped Saga stations bought by GMG last year, will launch on 26 March aimed at over-40s with a mix of easy listening music from the past six decades.
Dene is a radio veteran, having clocked up 10 years on Capital FM’s breakfast show and six years at Virgin before joining Magic.
The DJ said the opportunity to return to the breakfast slot was something he couldn’t turn down.
Smooth Radio will go head to head with Emap’s Magic as its closest competitor in terms of playlist and target audience, targeting what GMG Radio chief executive John Myers has called the LAMA - Loaded And Mature Adult.
