Smooth Radio hires agency to target older listeners

LONDON - Guardian Media Group (GMG) Radio has appointed Dye Holloway Murray to the £3m creative account for Smooth Radio ahead of a push to target older listeners.

The agency pitched against incumbent Clear Marketing, Hooper Galton and Mustoes to secure the business in a process handled by the AAR.The creative review follows the appointment of MediaCom to the account in December. It was previously held by Brilliant. Both pitches were overseen by GMG group marketing director Helen Dickinson.For the quarter to 6 December 2007, Smooth Radio had a total weekly reach of 2.2m listeners and a 2% share of national radio listening, according to RAJAR figures published at the end of January.Smooth Radio, formerly Jazz FM, has plans to target 40-59-year olds listeners as part of its strategy for 2008. Veteran DJ Tony Blackburn recently joined Smooth Radio in London's presenting team, taking over the weekend breakfast show from 16 February. Until last year, Blackburn presented the breakfast show on GCap Media's Classic Gold.
