SMG closes cross-media sales house

LONDON - Scottish Media Group is to close its cross-media sales and strategy house SMG Access, fuelling speculation of a possible break-up of the group's media assets.

The dissolving of SMG Access means that advertising sales across the group will revert to individual sales teams for the SMG brands, which include Virgin Radio, cinema sales house Pearl & Dean, outdoor company Primesight and Grampian and Scottish Television.

As a result of the restructure, SMG Access acting managing director Mike Hope-Milne will be appointed to a senior role at Pearl & Dean, reporting to chief executive Kathryn Jacob.

A spokesman for SMG confirmed the closure of the team, saying: "All members of the sales teams will be in a position to offer integrated media solutions, and there will be one key point of contact within each team."

The closure follows on from the decision earlier this year to devolve the Out of Home department of the SMG Group, which encompassed Pearl & Dean and Primesight. The move saw the departure of chief executive Christine Costello.

Last month saw the departure of SMG's chief executive Andrew Flanagan in the same month Ulster Television considered tabling a £300m offer for the group.
