Chippendale is taking on a newly created role with responsibility for developing Yahoo! Europe's media sales strategy and for building the company's profile among the advertising community. He will report to the Yahoo! Europe regional vice-president and managing director Dominique Vidal.
Vidal said: "We are operating in a dynamic online advertising market that continues to grow at unprecedented rates. To seize this moment and be true market leaders, we aim to build a world-class media sales organisation focused on driving thought leadership, creativity and the best customer service."
As exclusively revealed in ±±¾©Èü³µpk10 last year, Chippendale left Sky last October after 14 years with the company (±±¾©Èü³µpk10, 1 October).
His departure came just three months after Nick Milligan, the former deputy chief executive of Five, joined in the new position of managing director of Sky Media and as Chippendale's boss. The two are thought to have clashed over the future direction of the Sky saleshouse and the state of its trading balance with agencies.
During his time at Sky, Chippendale was an early advocate of interactive advertising. He also represented the broadcaster on the board of Barb and was Sky's representative on the Thinkbox panel. Chippendale was promoted to sales director of Sky in January 2003 following the decision of Peter Shea to stand down.
"This is an exciting time of opportunity in the world of advertising. The old order is shifting. Advertisers are starting to fully appreciate the power of online advertising at the same time as internet usage is soaring," Chippendale said.
