Airey made the criticism during a speech at a Royal Television Society Awards dinner.
Drawing on her experience as head of terrestrial channel Five and now managing director of Sky Networks, Airey slammed the terrestrial broadcaster ITV for lacking "breadth and diversity of content".
"The danger for ITV is that if schedules start to become more formulaic and bland then viewers looking for diversity will inevitably seek out those programmes on any one of the other 400 channels from which they can choose," she said.
Airey also warned the current ITV schedule would send viewers off to multichannel TV, and then used the platform to expound about the variety and choice on Sky.
Airey went on to slam rival satellite channels BBC Three, E4 and ITV2, which target the same 18-35 demographic as Sky One, by branding them "lemmings".
Channel 4 and Five were not to be left out of the scathing attack.
She called the proposed merger plans between the two broadcasters "as compatible as Liza Minneli and David Guest," because Five's purpose was to maximise profit and Channel 4 was meant to be a not-for-profit organisation.
