The HDTV service is expected to launch in early 2006 and haws been touted by Sky as leading the charge for providing the next generation of home entertainment, with both high quality audio and visual reproduction of content.
Sky is expected to add to the portfolio of channels available in the HDTV line-up as agreements are reached in the coming months ahead of the launch.
Movie buffs are likely to be the most obvious beneficiaries of the new system and Sky is lining up blockbusters Spider-man 2, The Day After Tomorrow and House of Flying Daggers as films to run on the two Sky Movies channels.
Sky is also expecting significant demand for Sky HD and will allow potential customers to pre-register for the package from 26 August.
The broadcaster has asked Comet to carry out the in-store pre-registration scheme and is looking to sign similar agreements with other leading retail chains in the coming months.

Sky unveils HDTV line-up
Sky One, a Sky Sports channel, Artsworld, two Sky Movies channels and a Sky Box Office channel will front the new High Definition Television offering from BSkyB.
