Sky teams up with Al Gore for user-generated channel

Sky has teamed up with former American vice president Al Gore to launch a new user-generated content channel on the satellite digital platform.

Current TV has been described as "the TV network created by the people who watch it" and the channel, due to launch next spring, debuted in the US last year.

It marks a further move by broadcasters into the use generated content boom pioneered by the likes of MySpace and YouTube, alongside other developments such as MTV Flux.

Gore, who is chairman of Current TV, has described the service as the "television homepage for the internet generation", targeting 18- to 34-year-olds.

Current TV offers short clips covering issues such as fashion, music and relationships, around a third of which is user-generated.

Yahoo! also announced today a video servies, yahoo.co.uk/video, launched as a rival to YouTube.
