Sky One places sex high on the agenda for its autumn schedule

Sky One has unveiled its autumn schedule with a line-up of new

programmes designed to build its youth audience.

BSkyB's deputy director of broadcasting and production, Kate Marsh, is

taking a risk by commissioning a new 65-part late-night soap. Crash

Palace is set in Sydney, Australia - a stopover for backpackers.

Marsh has also opted for a British version of the fidelity game

Temptation Island. Sex is high on the agenda with two more programmes: I

Slept With Richard Blackwood and The Real Sex and the City.

Marsh, who joined BSkyB at the beginning of the year, claimed it was an

exciting and strong line-up for Sky One. She said: "We are developing

our key shows such as Dream Team, The Villa and Kirsty's Home Video,

alongside commissioning new groundbreaking projects such as Crash

Palace, Rum and the unique I Slept With Richard Blackwood."

Rum is another original commission and is described by Sky One as "an

innovative comedy entertainment series, which puts the viewer behind the

camera".

OMD UK's TV director, Jonathan Allan, welcomed the new programming but

argued that Sky One still needs to build a more cohesive brand

identity.

He said: "Marsh is pushing at an open door in her attempt to build the

youth audience. But Sky One lacks the identity of E4, for example, and

people just dip in and out. It needs to be more cool and cult and it

still needs a more cohesive strategy for programming."

Sky One is also trying to beef up its daytime offering with a new

mid-morning programme, Lorraine, presented by GMTV's Lorraine Kelly.
