Sky One knocked off pay-TV perch

Sky One has lost its place as the top UK pay-TV channel following its dispute over carriage fees with Virgin Media, which led the cable operator to pull the channel from the platform.

The channel has been over-taken by UKTV Gold and Living TV, while its share of viewing in all multichannel homes has also fallen. Sky One is now ranked sixth in the commercial channels, behind ITV2, E4 and ITV3.

Sky One has suffered a 26% dip in adult viewing since Sky's exit from the Virgin Media platform, according to unofficial figures from Barb.

Virgin Media is poised to take BSkyB to court over the carriage fees dispute and has successfully lobbied for regulator Ofcom to launch a review of the pay-TV industry.

Relations between the two broadcasters started to deteriorate after Sky acquired a stake in ITV to prevent Virgin from buying it last year.
