Sky News looks outside UK and Ireland for advertising

LONDON - Sky News is aiming to attract advertising from international companies with the appointment of National Geographic Channel Europe to broker deals with companies outside the UK and Ireland.

The deal will see Sky News offer bespoke ad packages to international clients as the channel increases its reach around the world.

Nick Pollard, head of Sky News, said: "Sky News is known for the speed of its coverage and flexibility in reporting live news. We have built up a strong and loyal audience both in the UK and overseas. There is a real appetite for Sky News's brand of live breaking news and it makes sense for us to better serve our international viewers."

Sky News is available to 80m people in more than 40 countries worldwide. According to European Media and Marketing Survey, 7m affluent individuals tune into the channel every month.

Matthew Imi, head of Sky Ventures, said: "Since Sky News launched in 1989, our focus has been the UK and Ireland, where we have achieved unprecedented success.

"The natural step is to look at expanding our advertising sales business internationally. Market conditions, the advance in digital technology across Europe and the increasing appeal of Sky News to a pan-European audience means now is the right time to push for growth."

Although it is the biggest rolling news channel in the UK with a share of 0.7% of viewing according to the most recent ITC figures, the majority of the channel's audience is from outside the UK.
