Since 2002, Sky Media has sold spot ads for six of Emap's music channels - The Box, Smash Hits TV, Q TV, Kerrang! TV, Kiss TV and Magic TV - which are distributed via Sky Digital, ntl and Telewest.
The deal sees Sky Media retain this role until 2009. Sky will also act as the spot sales agency for The Hits, the most recent addition to Emap's stable of music channels, which is available on Freeview. The Hits' advertising was previously sold in-house.
Sky Media recently announced it will add three Chart Show channels (Chart Show TV, The Vault and B4) to its portfolio in January 2005. The division now represents 13 music channels in total, accounting for 46 per cent of music television viewing in multichannel homes. The deal will help Sky Media compete with its main rival, Viacom Brand Solutions, which owns the MTV portfolio, including the VH1 brand.
Dave King, the managing director of Emap Advertising, said: "While I think we did a great job selling ads for The Hits, the long-term model for this market is volume based and The Hits belongs as part of a portfolio sale."
