Sky Media on alert as Emap reviews TV sales arrangements

Emap is reviewing its TV airtime sales contract out of Sky Media, prompting speculation that it will be moved in-house to create a cross-media sales point.

At present, Sky Media has the contract to sell commercial airtime on Emap's Q, Kiss, Kerrang!, Magic, Smash Hits and The Box branded television channels.

However, Emap Advertising retains responsibility for selling ad space in the channels' corresponding magazines and radio stations. The company does, however, retain a small team that is dedicated to putting together sponsorship deals and overseeing Emap's relationship with Sky Media.

Observers believe Emap wants to regain control of its music channels, especially since Sky launched three wholly owned music channels - The Amp, Flaunt and Scuzz - last year.

The existing contract runs until the end of the year.

Cross-media deals are increasingly popular. Last month, Viacom Brand Solutions, IPC and Capital Radio created a one-stop shop called Real Sound, Vision & Print (RSVP).

The Hallmark Channel is also reviewing its contract with Sky Media.

Dave King, the managing director of Emap Advertising, did not return calls.
