Sky extends deal to broadcast the PGA Championship

LONDON - Sky Sports has extended its agreement with PGA of America to exclusively televise golf's PGA Championship for another 10 years.

The announcement follows the news in June that Setanta, the Irish-owned pay TV group, won the rights to broadcast the PGA Tour from January 2007, breaking Sky's 10-year hold on the event.

Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland will broadcast live coverage of the season's final major until the end of 2016. Coverage will also be made available through Sky's mobile and broadband services, meaning that the broadcaster will have covered the PGA Championship for a total of 25 years.

Joe Steranka, the CEO of PGA of America, said: "The PGA of America is proud to be entering a new and exciting chapter of gold coverage with Sky Sports, a partner whose talented international staff brings a state-of-the-art product to promoting the game of golf. We have enjoyed our relationship with Sky Sports as it has captured many of golf's premier moments. We look forward to sharing many more great moments with Sky at the season's final major."

In 2007, Sky Sports will broadcast live coverage of two major golfing events -- the World Golf Championships, more than 30 tournaments, and the Solheim Cup -- in the build-up to 2008's Ryder Cup.

Sky Sports has worked with PGA since it launched its first channel in 1991.
