Skipton Building Society is behind a new venture that will create a new web-based consumer credit reference agency. Callcredit will provide a credit data service to the financial services industry, which it hopes will rival established players Experian and Equifax.

The building society has partnered with US-based business data company Dun & Bradstreet in the venture, which should be up and running by the middle of next year. Although Callcredit will offer larger businesses the service through a direct line link, smaller businesses that handle fewer references will be able to access services online through www.callcredit.plc.uk.
