Sixsmith to sue government after sacking

LONDON - Martin Sixsmith, the former head of communications at the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions who lost his job over the Jo Moore scandal, is set to sue the government.

Sixsmith was widely reported to have resigned from his role last month. However, he later claimed that he had never resigned and that the government should still employ him.

His case is due to go before arbitration on April 8. However, Sixsmith is said to be doubtful that the outcome will be in his favour. If it is not, he is understood to be considering suing the government, using laws that were designed to protect whistleblowers. He could claim unlimited damages.

Sixsmith says that he is entitled to a government job if he is moved from his role at the DTLR.

In February, transport minister Stephen Byers announced that he had accepted the resignations of Jo Moore, his special adviser, and Sixsmith, over leaked memos discussing the timing of news releases in relation to the funeral of Princess Margaret.

However, Sixsmith claims that this is not the case and that he had been told he would not be forced to quit over the issue.
