Sir Martin's remuneration package was the subject of a shareholder rebellion in the summer as 46% of the company's shareholders refused to back his deal at the ad giant's annual general meeting. Sir Martin's remuneration package jumped £783,000 from the £1.54m he made in 2002.
The Sunday Times Pay List to be published on Sunday is topped by 'Pop Idol' creator Simon Fuller, who earned £36m, up from £30m last year. The 'Pop Idol' and Spice Girls creator was followed at some distance by Express Newspaper owner Richard Desmond, who pulled in £20.98m, up from just £7.55m.
Outgoing BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball, who was also the subject of shareholder disquiet, earned a total of £11.57m in 2003, leaping from last year's £7.54m.
Ball's £11.57m put him at 71st in the overall ranking, compared with Sir Martin's 366th place. Not far behind Ball was BSkyB financial chief Martin Stewart, who is in the race to take over as chief executive. Stewart earned £5.21m and is a new entry.
Daily Mail owner Viscount Rothermere came in at seven with £8.68m, followed by Jane Leeves, who plays Daphne from 'Frasier', who made £7m last year. Also from 'Frasier', John Mahoney, who plays Frasier's father Martin, was at number three on the TV and media list with £16.1m, making him by far and away the best-paid actor. Rowan Atkinson, who earned £6.5m, was at number nine.
