Simpsons franchise responds to criticism with 'healthy' soft drink range

LONDON - 'The Simpsons' brand is continuing its march through the children's food and drink sector, with the launch of a range of healthy soft drinks after 'Simpsons'-branded products were slated as being high in fat, sugar and salt.

'The Simpsons'-branded range is being handled by Vimto Soft Drinks, which will be responsible for marketing, sales and distribution, with production by Cott Beverages.

It is understood the range includes lunchbox-sized cartons, 330ml drinks as well as 1L and 2L dilute-to-taste products. Flavours will include orange, and apple and blackcurrant.

According to reports, the drinks are set to be marketed as being healthy, with no artificial colours and no added sugar.

This latest move for the brand follows a scathing report by consumer group Which? in February, which slated the use of popular children's characters, including 'The Simpsons' and 'Shrek', to sell unhealthy foods.

Other 'Simpsons'-branded foods include Yo Choco bars and Dohnut Cookies, both from Elkes, and a corn snacks range from Tayto NI.

'The Simpsons' name has also been used in promotions for Kellogg's Cornflakes.
