It is the first time the cartoonists have ever drawn for a retailer anywhere in the world.

The image is being worked into ads that will be used online, in press, in-store and on TV next week.

Alan Hunt, DVD and CD trading manager for Woolworths, said: "The movie will be a massive seller with over one million people expected to snap up the DVD version in the fist week alone."

Woolworths stores are also changing their look for the release of the film. Two hundred of the retailer's shops are replacing the first two Os in the Woolworths signage with Simspons-style doughnuts for the week.

A further five stores will be 'Simpsonised' and have their traditional red frontage replaced by 'Simpsons yellow' and lifesize versions of Bart and Homer will be in the window and working as meeters and greeters at the stores.
