Sheila Mitchell
Public Health England
Marketing director
It’s been a landmark year for Mitchell. In April she was appointed to the PHE board, making her the first marketer in the public sector to be invited to the executive agency management board. This came on the back of hard-hitting, effective campaigns that have produced hugely impressive results, despite shrinking budgets. For instance, 2m people took part in ‘Dry January’ and 250,000 smokers signed up for ‘Stoptober’. It has also been a great year for gongs, with 24 marketing industry award wins. One of the campaigns closest to Mitchell’s heart is ‘Be Clear on Cancer’: "It has saved thousands of lives by getting people to see their GP earlier than they would have done," she says.
