The Shard may open for events, but not until late 2013

Organisers of a new visitor experience at The Shard say they hope to open the venue for corporate events after the attraction has launched, but this may not be until autumn 2013.

Exhibition design group Event Communications has won the contract to run 'The View from the Shard' experience, which opens in February 2013.

The experience starts in the lobby, continues in the lifts and spans floors 68, 69 and 72 and a maximum height of 244 metres. It will be the highest viewing point from any building in Western Europe, and the public can pre-book tickets now at a price of £24.95.

Ruth Howlett, head of PR for the experience, said there have been lots of enquiries into the skyscraper’s viewing galleries being used as an event space when not open to the public, but the company isn’t taking any bookings yet.

"We will run the visitor experience exclusively from February to May and after that we will hopefully be able to host private and corporate events."
