LONDON - Setanta Sports has reached the one million premium subscriber mark four months after the company began broadcasting live football from the Barclays Premier League.

In addition to its premium subscriber base, the company also has more than two million customers through the availability of its channels as a basic-tier service through Virgin Media and Irish cable firm, UPC. In total, Setanta has over three million subscribers.

Setanta last week secured the rights to the away qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup involving England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Leonard Ryan, joint Setanta chief executive, said the premium subs milestone means the company is on track to meet its financial and operational targets ahead of schedule.
