My secret work weapon is far simpler: it's small, I carry it in my pocket and it's made of paper. It's my faithful Moleskine notebook.
You see, you come to a point in your career when the old way is the best way. I cannot resist a paper and pen; it's real, expressive and personal. My notebook switches on when I do, in any location, at any time; it's instant, which is better than my BlackBerry - that takes two minutes and 20 seconds to start and lights up the majority of the location I am in.
Ideas and insights can come from the most unusual places at unusual times. Maybe it's my age, but as soon as they appear they can leave me, so instead my pen hits a page. There is nothing better than taking a mental picture and making it a reality, a vision, a word and an action.
Sometimes I wonder how secret my weapon is, based on the fearful and tentative look from my team as I arrive and the notebook opens. Another great idea from the boss, they think ... maybe.
