Scottish Government keeps account in MediaCom

The Scottish Government has retained MediaCom Scotland to handle its £68m media planning and buying account.

The agency held on to the business following a pitch against regional agencies including BZO, Feather Brooksbank, MediaVision and SpiritMedia.

The contract covers the main Scottish governmental organisations, including Visit Scotland, NHS Health, and Quality Meat Scotland. The business will include two additional briefs - the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body, both of which are to benefit from increased investment.

The pitch, which was led by Roger Williams, head of marketing at the Scottish Government, was delayed, having been originally scheduled for September. While the pitch had called for a three-year contract, Williams said the reappointment would be effective from 4 December and run for an initial period of 16 months. Work for further government bodies may subsequently be included in the brief.

Last week the Scottish Government unveiled a campaign to drive uptake of flu vaccinations. It has placed sonic six-sheets, created in partnership with Clear Channel and Kinetic, near pharmacies in Aberdeen, Stirling and Edinburgh.
